Choosing Meeting
Autumn Outing |
Directors and Past Presidents meet with
adjudicators and school teachers to select the comprehensive Schools
Competition pieces for pupils ranging from Primary 1 through to
Secondary 6, drawn from the widest possible spectrum of schools in
the East End of Glasgow. Competition categories encompass Choirs,
Solo Singing, Duets, Singers and Players, Verse Speaking, Choral
Speaking, News Desk (an innovative writing category) and Artwork.
Annual Club outing to locations with
an association with Burns. This year the outing is to
Burns Country in Dumfries. Date to be confirmed. |

Hallowe’en Supper

A relaxing, convivial social
function held on Friday the 31st October, which combines the works of
Burns with topics relating to wider Scottish culture.

DECEMBER 08
Schools Competition

Held in St
Mungo’s Academy and accommodating an annual participation of
approximately 700 pupils on one evening in early December together
with a further 300 entrants for the Artwork and News Desk
competitions. |

JANUARY 09
Anniversary Dinner

Held on 25th January (or
Saturday 24th when the 25th is a Sunday) in
the Marriott Hotel, Argyle Street, Glasgow and attended by some 650
members and their guests, who receive the toast to the Immortal
Memory of Robert Burns proposed by a speaker of often
international reputation. The assembled company responds extremely
generously to the Appeal for funds for the annual Schools
Competition following performances by prize winning entrants.
We will be celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Robert
Burns. |

FEBRUARY 09
Schools Concert
Adjudicators Dinner |
Pupils
from all categories receive their awards following the performance
of their particular prize winning pieces in the presence of family
members, friends, teachers, adjudicators and Club members.
Shettleston Halls, Glasgow.
Held in late February as a "thank
you" dinner for the Adjudicators who assisted with the Schools
Competition. |
